Storefront & Sidewalk Cleaning
for Charleston Businesses

Downtown, the sidewalk in front of your door is doing a lot of work. King Street foot traffic drops gum, spilled drinks and grease from a hundred restaurants, and the surface underneath it is often old and unforgiving. We clean storefront bases, entrances and walkways on the peninsula with attention to what the substrate can take, and we work around pedestrians rather than blocking them.

Storefront & Sidewalk Cleaning in Charleston: What Makes It Different Here

The peninsula is the hardest place in the metro to do this job well. Historic masonry, old brick pavers, bluestone and soft mortar all sit next to modern concrete, sometimes on the same twenty feet of frontage. What is fine for a poured walkway is not fine for a 19th century base course. Upper King hospitality and the Market and East Bay stretch generate constant gum and beverage staining right in the doorway, and the sidewalks are narrow, so there is nowhere to stage. Restaurant patios add grease that spreads past the property line. Downtown office buildings and hotels have appearance standards that do not tolerate a half-clean result. We schedule overnight and early morning so King Street is clear when we work, and we adjust our approach surface by surface.

  • Overnight work on King Street and Upper King so pedestrian and patio traffic is never blocked
  • Historic brick, bluestone and old mortar approached differently from modern poured walkways
  • Gum and beverage staining lifted from restaurant and hotel entrances, then the full walkway evened out

Areas we cover in Charleston: King Street retail, Upper King hospitality, Market / East Bay, Morrison Drive, Downtown office core.

Charleston Storefront & Sidewalk Cleaning Questions

Our building is historic. How do you avoid damaging old brick and mortar?

We assess the surface before anything is turned on. Soft mortar joints, weathered brick and bluestone get a gentler approach than poured concrete, and in some places hand attention on gum and stains is the right answer instead of surface cleaning the whole run. If a section is too fragile to clean safely, we say so and leave it alone.

Can this be done without closing our patio or blocking the sidewalk?

Yes. Downtown work is typically scheduled overnight or in the early morning before deliveries and pedestrian traffic pick up. Patios are cleaned after close so furniture can be moved and replaced the same visit. On narrow King Street frontages we work in short sections and keep a walking path open the entire time.
